Dr. Shailendra Pandya (b. 27 March 1987, Udaipur) is an Indian child rights activist[1] and former member of the Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Government of Rajasthan.[2] Since 2022 he is the director of Gayatri Seva Sansthan (GSS).
In October 2024 he received recognition for contributions to child welfare at the Indo-Arab Leader summit in Dubai.[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Pandya was born in 1987 in Udaipur, Rajasthan, and graduated from the University of Rajasthan in 2009 with a degree in computer engineering. After completing his master's degree of social work in 2012 at Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University , Pandya began his professional career for protection of child rights and then joined Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights as state in charge of Child Labour Cell, where he was involved in policies and programs for eradication and rehabilitation of child labour[4][5]
Notable works
[edit]In 2019, during an interstate rescue in Surat with Rajasthan Police, he saved 138 children who had been brought there to work various jobs.[6] 128 of the rescued children were from Rajasthan.[7]
On 12 June 2022, he was involved in a 'Child Labour Free Udaipur' project[8] in which 91 children were rescued from various workplaces and 17 FIRs were registered against 54 employers. Later, sixty of the rescued children were re-enrolled in education.[9] He is known for his work during the COVID-19 pandemic when he conducted a Situational Analysis of Tribal Child Labour,[10] where 865 migrant children returning to their villages during pandemic to educational facilities, for rehabilitation and identified families of child laborers.[11] Then he worked with the district administration, creating a helpline to report cases, which prevented 15 child marriages.[5][12] He was speaker at Tedx Pradhikaran at D Y Patil Vidyapeeth Pune, 2023.

- India’s 100 under 40 ‘Social Leaders award by Fox Story India, in 2022, in the field of Child Rehabilitation and Child Rights in India.[citation needed][13]
- Social Change Makers award by Doordarshan, in the field of child protection, In 2017.[citation needed] [13]
- Laadli Award in 2014 by Government of Rajasthan for child protection and girl child education work in tribal areas.[citation needed]
