- JERUSALEM - Dedi Graucher, a well known Hasidic superstar whose songs topped Jewish music charts in the 90s passed away today at the age of 62 after battling a serious illness.
Oded David Graucher’s star began rising astronomically after the release of his album Ratza in collaboration with Yossi Green, with the album’s nearly nine minute long title track making the Israeli born Graucher a household name.
He headlined multiple concerts over the course of his career, and his albums, which included Bitchu Bashem, Hakol Letova, Dedi and Yonatan, and Miami & Dedi, sold tens of thousands of copies. Graucher performed alongside Mordechai Ben David and Avraham Fried at what is considered to be the greatest concert in the history of Chasidic music at Yarkon Park in 1996, with over 100,000 people in attendance.
Graucher’s popularity spanned the Atlantic, delighting music lovers in both the United States and his native Israel. Calls for prayers on his behalf rang out approximately five years ago when he became seriously ill, and ramped up once again approximately three months ago when he was hospitalized at Tel Hashomer Hospital in Tel Aviv.
News of the singer turned businessman’s passing made waves on social media. Former Israeli ambassador David Friedman, a cousin of Graucher’s, described him on Twitter as “one of Israel’s most talented and successful singers” and “a “Baal Chesed of enormous magnitude.”
“Most will never know of all his acts of kindness,” tweeted Friedman.
A statement released by Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu described Graucher as the epitome of one who loves their fellow Jew, using his talents to light up hearts and to spread joy.
“Dedi accompanied my children through their journey to adulthood and was with us in both moments of joy and sadness,” wrote Netanyahu. “All he had to do was walk into the room and we all broke out in tremendous smiles.
“Who didn’t love Dedi, his amazing soul and the light that shone from him? We cry tonight with Malka and the children - Tzipora Miriam, Michal Chana, Shira, Shani Yaffa, Shai Meir, Avraham Elimelech, Natan Yair, Renana Zahava, Yaakov Dov and Aviel - and the many people who knew this wonderful, good man. Our family has lost a dear friend that we will never forget. May his memory be a blessing.”
דדי גראוכר, מגדולי המזיקה החסידית בישראל, שהלך לעולמו בגיל 62 יובא למנוחות בצהריים (שלישי) בשעה 14:00 בבית העלמין 'ארץ החיים' בצומת הר טוב. מאות צפויים ללוות אותו בדרכו האחרונה.
בשנים האחרונות נאבק גראוכר במחלה קשה ואושפז בבתי חולים לתקופות ממושכות מספר פעמים.
הוא היה מוכר בציבור בעיקר בזכות להיטים כמו "חברון" ו"לך אתן" שהפכו לשירים מוכרים מאוד בישראל. לצד זאת עסק בפעילויות חסד רבות וניהל קריירה עסקית עניפה.
לאורך השנים שיתף גראוכר ז"ל פעולה עם זמרים בולטים במוזיקה החסידית בהם מרדכי בן דוד ואברהם פריד ואף השתתף במספר קונצרטים של פרויקט האסק.
בשנת 1996 לקח חלק בהופעה שנחשבת עד היום לגדולה ביותר בישראל בתולדות המוזיקה החסידית שנערכה בפארק הירקון לצד הזמרים מרדכי בן דוד ואברהם פריד.
בנו נתן כתב: "ברוך דיין האמת, עודד דוד בן ציפורה. אבא אני אתגעגע".
ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו ומשפחתו ספדו לדדי, חבר המשפחה: "רעייתי שרה, יאיר, אבנר ואני, מבכים את לכתו של חברנו האהוב דדי גראוכר ז"ל. דדי היה התגלמות אמיתית של אהבת ישראל. הוא שימח אנשים בכישרון הייחודי שלו להאיר לבבות, להצחיק".
נתניהו הוסיף: "דדי ליווה את ילדינו במסע התבגרותם. הוא היה עימנו ברגעי שמחה ויגון. כשרק היה נכנס לחדר, חיוך רחב היה מתפשט על פנינו. מי לא אהב את דדי. את הנשמה הטובה ואת האור שקרן ממנו".
לסיום ספד: "אנחנו בוכים הערב עם מלכה והילדים - ציפורה מרים, מיכל חנה, שירה, שני יפה, שי מאיר, אברהם אלימלך, נתן יאיר, רננה זהבה, יעקב דב, אביאל - ועם מוקיריו הרבים מספור של האיש הטוב והמופלא הזה. משפחתנו איבדה הערב חבר יקר שאותו לעולם לא נשכח".
שדרן הרדיו החרדי מנחם טוקר ספד: "דדי חבר שלי, זמר נדיר, אדם מדהים, תמיד לעזור לכולם, גם ברגעים הכי קשים עם בדיחה וחיוך, הלב הכי גדול שראיתי בחיי, אני פשוט לא מאמין. לך תשמח את המלאכים שם למעלה, תשיר להם מהשירה הקדושה שלך".
ח"כ אוריאל בוסו ספד: "מבכה על לכתו של חבר יקר ואהוב, איש החסד דדי גראוכר ז"ל. מוסיקאי ואדם עם לב ענק, איש חסד ונתינה. אתמול ביקרתי אותו צחקנו שרנו ושוחחנו יחד עם המשפחה היקרה שלו, רוחו של דדי תמשיך ותלווה אותנו עוד שנים רבות. יהי זכרו ברוך".
Growing up in the '90s, Dedi was my favorite singer. His music was a direct influence to me learning to play the drums. There were no beat machines, no autotune, just raw talent in it's purest form. While over recent years, I haven't listened to much Jewish music after leaving orthodoxy, I periodically binge Dedi's music. It is so upbeat. I will try to remember him for that and how amazing of a person he was. His loss is a true loss. May his neshama have an aliyah.
היה אפשר לשמוע בשירה שלו את היחוד הקולי, והחתימה היפה של סופי השירים, והמנעד המיוחד שעצר נשימה והיה מרגש את כל המנגינות לנקודת השיא. תמיד מרגיש שהיה בכוחו לעצור את ירידת הדורות..... לא מין הנמנע שמיתתו מכפרת על מצבינו כעת, וגם לפני כן, שאנו זקוקים לכפרה.
As a kid i grew up loving Dedi, I saw him first at the NCSY concert in Toronto. When I got older and went to Israel I got to meet Aviel his son and even spent Shabbos in Petach Tikvah. I am sorry for the families loss. Barch Dayen Emes.
